Hello, I’m Jonathan Spooner. With over two decades in the tech industry, I’ve been on a journey filled with hands-on innovation, leadership, and a commitment to making technology work for people. As the CTO of Loyal, I lead a global team focused on growing apps with subscriptions and our ad tech platform.
At Loyal, I bring together 20 years of experience to drive success. My background in AdTech, honed at Veoh Networks and the Verve Group, alongside my skills in mobile and web development, allows me to lead our global team effectively. My role is about more than just technology—it’s about understanding people, building strong teams, and creating solutions that work for everyone.
I’ve seen many trends in my technical journey. Starting with Perl, PHP, and JavaScript, I’ve worked through Java, Scala, Ruby, C++, and Objective-C, to Swift. I started when we managed our own hardware, and I was a Persona-trained DBA. I’ve witnessed the rise of the cloud and the shift to microservices. Now, I’m simplifying again, focusing on cost-effective, monolithic solutions.
In frontend development, I’ve navigated from vanilla JavaScript to modern frameworks and back to more sane and sustainable practices. For iOS apps, I’ve moved from Objective-C to experimenting with PhoneGap, ReactNative, and Flutter, before settling back to Native Swift. My goal is to help people choose the best technology for their unique needs.
In organizational management, I’ve integrated elements of EOS, OKRs, and Agile. I’m excited to share more about this on my blog. I believe in addressing both the social and technical aspects of business. I prioritize empathy, understanding, and professionalism in everything I do.
